The flatware service and serving set from the series 'Flaches Modell' in this and the following two lots, formed part of an extensive service designed by Hoffmann in 1904 for Lily and Fritz Wärndorfer and was exhibited at Der gedeckte Tisch exhibition in October 1906, mounted to coincide with the opening of the new Wiener Werkstätte showroom in the Neustiftgasse.
The original drawings for the service are recorded in the the archive of the Wiener Werkstätte at the MAK in Vienna, Cat. Inv. No. K.I.12086/10 and K.I.12086/13, WWMB 7, pp. 445-446.
