This tapestry either depicts The Marriage or The Dance from The Loves of Gombeaut et Macée series. This popular series depicting the pastoral life and the joys of youth, was woven from the first part of the 16th Century through the 17th Century in various workshops in Flanders and France. Jean Leclerc designed a set of prints illustrating this story circa 1587 and several sets of eight were woven during the late 16th and early 17th Century. This tapestry appears. however, to pre-date those designs.
