Genl., (Oliver Otis Howard, Union Major General, holder of Congressional Medal of Honor), one and two-thirds page ALS (signature on reverse), Oct 24, 1863 war-date military letter with 'Headquarters Eleventh Corps, Army of the Cumberland' ('Potomac' ms. deleted and 'Cumberland' substituted in ms.) printed letterhead, letter to 'Gen. Meigs, Qr. Ms. Genl., Chattanooga', 'The pontoons are being removed now. Could they have gone by water it would have been better...as I now cover the river...I am having an engine and three cars brought down the track...If I succeed these will enable us to transport...with comparitive ease. The Steamer will be ready Monday next...I am continuing to prepare the R.R. to Jasper...', 7½ x 9¾", couple file folds not affecting the signature, very fine
