A Catch of Fish tumbling from a Basket and Shells on a rocky Shore

Elena was the daughter and pupil of Giuseppe Recco, one of the leaders of this Neapolitan family of still life painters specializing in pictures of flowers, fish and shells. In 1695 she travelled to Spain in the entourage of Contessa di Santo Stefano. Few signed works by her are known but these include Fish on the Shore, Institut für Künste, Donaueschingen (see L. Salerno, La Natura Morta Italiana, 1984, no. 63.1, p. 243).
