Karoly Escher worked as a documentary newspaper reporter in Hungary during the 1930s and 1940s. Escher was celebrated for his work in photography, earning a silver medal in the 1938 Venice Biennale. He found inspiration in the new vision of the Russian Contructivists and Bauhaus, concentrating on the formal aesthetics of his work rather than the politically charged subjects attracting his contemporaries
