As an active member of the photographic community in Madrid for over sixty years, José Ortiz-Echagüe was recognized for his documentation of the country and its culture. In particular, he was known for his expert use of the Fresson process as a means to express his pictorial vision. Ortiz-Echagüe successfully combined a pictorialist sensibility with an equally strong documentary aesthetic to create beautiful records of Spain and its people.
