Each with arched rectangular panelled back within a moulded border surmounted by turned gilt-metal finials, the shaped spreading base with removable canted top enclosing a reservoir, on bell-shaped feet, the thermometer with a brass temperature scale engraved with acanthus, the barometer with a shaped brass vernier scale engraved with scrolling acanthus and tassels, each with visible glass tube, the barometer inscribed '25 décembre 1721 ...à Roüen', restorations and replacements

An identical barometer in ebony, also inscribed '25 décembre 1721... à Rouen' was sold anonymously at Sotheby's, Monaco, 3 July 1993, lot 162, while a further pair of very similar barometers in tortoiseshell, signed Cleret à Rouen was sold anonymously at Sotheby's, Monaco, 5 February, 1978, lot 131.
