The print is entitled 'ANGLING' and inscribed:
'Angling on river banks, trowling [sic] for pike,
is noble Sport, when as the fish doth strike,
And when your pleasure's over, then at night,
You and your freinds [sic], doe [sic] eat them with delight,'
The engraving, inscribed 'F. Barlow inv. W. Hollar./fecit' was published by the bookseller John Overton with twelve other subjects including the title-page.
The drawing is typical of the work that inspired the diarist John Evelyn to describe Barlow in 1656 as 'the famous painter of Fowle, Beastes and Birds'.
