This sculpture shows Leda, the wife of Tyndareus, king of Sparta, in the embrace of Jupiter in the shape of a swan. Jupiter was in love with Leda and under the disguise of a swan seduced her, the union resulting in the birth from an egg (or perhaps two) of the twins Castor and Pollux and Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra.
