Circular box, the hinged cover centred by a circular enamel plaque painted with a girl playing the hurdy-gurdy and admired by a cat and a peasant boy, painted en grisaille on a pink ground, set on a gold panel engraved with radiating tongues alternating with leaves, the sides engraved with matching fluted oval reserves and a laurel wreath, the base engraved with a swirling rosette in the center with radiating tongues, the interior with dark tortoiseshell lining

The provenance of this piece is explained in an joined manuscript note: "Cette bon- bonnière Louis XVI [sic] or et émail a été donnée par l'Empereur de Russie Paul Ier (1754-1801) à mon arrière-grand-oncle Jean-Victor de Sybourg, précepteur ou lecteur des princes Alexandre et Nicolas , ses fils. Elle a été léguée par / lui à sa soeur femme de mon arrière grand père François minis- tre du St. Evangile à Payerne Celui-ci la laissa à son fils Victor mon grand-père qui la légua à son arrière petite fille Marie- Louise Warniez, celle-ci morte à 22 ans, la lègue à mon frère Gaston, pour qu'elle revînt dans la famille. Victor de Mestral Combremont.".
