Rectangular box with canted corners, the cover inset with an enamel miniature depicting Bacchic followers preparing a sacrifice, painted en grisaille on an opalescent blue ground, within an octagonal burnished gold frame, set on a black enamelled reserve painted with white leaf garlands, flanked by two rectangular panels enamelled with an amphora and a thyrsos, the corners of the lid engraved with scrolling foliage framed by opaque white enamel bands, the sides and base enamelled in translucent blue on a horizontally wavy guilloché ground, the canted corners engraved on gold with classical heads on navette-shaped black enamelled reserves
