Engraved title-vignette, 13 head- and tailpieces, including 4 sepia aquatints, and 73 plates (of which 53 are line engravings, one double-page, and 20 are sepia aquatint views). (Title and 2 following leaves foxed, lesser foxing scattered through the vol.) Contemporary half russia, gilt raised bands on spine (spine a trifle rubbed, hinges becoming weak).

FIRST EDITION of Wilkins' first work, the result of a four-year tour of Greece, Italy and Asia Minor during which time he also began his architectural career with a Greek design for Downing College, generally considered to be the first example of the true Greek revival in England. The fine plates include views of the temples at Paestum, Segesta, Agrigento and Syracuse. Abbey Travel 128; Blackmer 1797.
