拍品专文

Nègre was granted permission on 21 May 1859 to make photographs of sculpture in the gardens of the Tuileries on condition that he would not enter the private areas while the Empress Eugénie was in residence. He photographed approximately twenty different sculptures with the intention of producing a book, although this was never realised. The majority of the photographs were made using this powerfully large negative format, unusual for this photographer who was known for smaller, more intimate subjects. The majority of images from this series were printed in albumen and salt prints are rare.
