Although she died at a young age, Lisa Larsen's career as a staff photographer for LIFE and freelance photojournalist was met with acclaim. Her work took her to cover Hungarian Refugees, to the Soviet Union to photograph Krushchev, to Asia and Eastern Europe. In 1953, she was named Woman Photographer of the Year by the National Photographers Association, The Encyclopedia Britannica and by the Mathew Brady Award committee of the University of Missouri. In 1956 she was the first female photojournalist allowed into Communist Outer Mongolia. Her versatility led her to photograph anything from political conventions, landscapes, fashion and world events.
