The man standing with his hands placed one atop the other and hollowed as if to hold a standard, wearing heavy layered robes and slab-like shoes, his face modeled with smiling expression, his hair with combed markings drawn up on top of his head; the woman standing in a more obsequious pose with head slightly bowed and arms held away from her body to form a circle within the creased full sleeves of her heavy robes, her face with serious expression and her long hair knotted in back

A number of figures similar to the male attendant have been published. One was included in The 15th Anniversary Catalogue, Idemitsu Museum of Arts, Tokyo, 1981, p. 157, no. 587; another is illustrated in Zhongguo Gudai Taosu Yishu, China Ancient Art Press, Beijing, 1957, no. 8; and another is illustrated by Daisy Lion-Goldschmidt, Chinese Art, New York, 1966, p. 146, no. 91.
