This Imperial Edict was issued by Qianlong on 20th November, in the 26th year of his reign (A.D. 1761).

The text proclaims the following:

By Imperial Command

Through a period of time the worthy Bu La Nai (a Manchurian name), from the Department of Treasury, should be promoted two ranks. Equally praised is Xi Cheng's (Bu La Nai's Hao) loyal grandfather to be bestowed a Zi Zheng Dafu (title). This Imperial edict should be kept by three generations and this Heavenly good news should be celebrated.

The Court congratulates you on your virtue and the bestowing on you the title, Secretary of the Treasury, as well as the promotion of two ranks. Xi Cheng's grandmother, an honorable lady, should also be given the title Damu (a matriach title).
