coloured lithographs, gilt borders, some unobtrusive discolouration and spotting, framed
all approximately I. 292 x 421mm
A fine set of thirteen military prints illustrating the successful capture of Kalat and Ghazni by the British in 1839. Ghazni was taken by the British Army under Sir John Keane on 23rd July 1839. Keane (1781-1844) had left the seige artillery behind and had to effect an entrance by blowing open the Kabul gate. For his success in taking the famous fortress he was made GCB and raised to the peerage later the same year. Kalat, the capital of Baluchistan, was taken in the same year, and Mehrab Khan, the ruler of Baulchistan, was killed during the storming of the citadel. (13)
