9 October 1788: "..walked about the ruins of Rajimal & saw many very Picturesque Views indeed". From 1592 to 1607 and again from 1639 to 1707 Rajmahal had been the capital of Bihar and Bengal and still retains the ruins of many fine buildings. October 1788: With "the assemblage of small vessels ...[Saccra Gulley produces]...a most impressive effect of commercial activity...The small building upon the lower eminence is a bungalo, or cottage, belonging to the British resident of the Bhagulpore district".
