A Worcester blue scale-ground vase
Circa 1775, blue pseudo-Chinese seal mark
Of inverted baluster form with a flared neck, painted in the manner of James Giles with brightly coloured exotic birds in wooded landscapes, within rococo gilt C-scroll cartouches with panels of scale and diaper ornament, the shouders reserved with two small similarly edged panels, each with an exotic bird, the neck with a continuous band of gilt flowers and foliage, the rim with gilt scrolls and diaper ornament (minute chip to rim, minute scratching to enamels and minute rubbing to gilt rim)

Cf. the two vases formerly in the Frank Lloyd Collection, sold in these Rooms, 2 May 1955, lots 112 and 113. The former vase was again sold in these Rooms on 5 June 1975, lot 124. The present vase and lot 113 were probably of the same garniture.
