Samuel Desborough (1619-1690) was a younger brother of John Desborough (1608-1680). He left England on the account of his religion and arrived at New Haven, America in 1639 to become one of the early settlers of Guilford, Connecticut in 1641. He returned to England to seek employment in 1650 and was appointed by Cromwell as one of his nine commissioners for Scotland and keeper of the great seal of Scotland in 1657. On the prospect of the Restoration, he signed his submission under the declaration of Breda and obtained a full pardon.
