Each with a shaped plate etched with a man and a woman below a canopy and within a vine border and a giltwood slip, the moulded frame with flowerheads and foliate clasps and issuing from behind further flowers, surmounted by an espagnolette mask and the back issuing from a brass- holder two segmented foliate branches with circular drip-pans and reeded nozzles, above a foliate boss, losses and replacement, restorations

A very closely related mirror with similar giltwood inner slip and three related branches in a Venetian Collection, Venice, is illustrated in G. Mariacher, Illuminazione in Italia dal Quattrocento all'Ottocento, Milan, 1965, p. 132a) and b).

A related pair of mirrors, lacking candle-branches and the surrounding flowers, was sold anonymously, Maître Marc-Arthur Kohn, Paris, 8 March 1995, lot 151 (Ffr 100,000).
