The Zuber archive records Eugène Ehrmann, assisted by Théophile Schuler, who specialised in animal painting, as being the designers of the series illustrating the five climatic zones. The set was engraved in 1854 and the first prints by Zuber of Rixheim were made in 1855 (O. Nouvel-Kammerer, Papiers Peints Panoramiques, Paris, 1990, pp. 312-313, cat. 84). The production of this highly successful series only ceased in 1878, but the 2050 blocks used for the printing of the series, were irreparably damaged in the second World War.
