the king and queen in full regalia, crowned and robed, the bishops in 16th century costume, holding walking sticks or staffs, the pawns in hats, knee length coats and breeches, each smoking a pipe, the knights as rearing horses, the rooks as Gothick spires, the kings both stamped with assay marks, King -- 2¾in. (7cm) high, pawn -- 1½in. (3.8cm) high
