A fan presented to the Queen-Regent Christina of Spain when she opened the Barcelona Exhibition in 1888 has sticks signed "Jules Vaillant sculpteur a Andeville, Oise", Junquera (P.): Una Coleccion de Abanicos en et palacio de Oriente, Reales Sitos , VI, No. 19 Spring 1969, pp.40.41
Jules Vaillant won a gold medal at L'Exposition Universelle de 1900 for the mother of pearl and ivory sticks he carved for Rodien. He began carving those sticks in 1891. This fan is signed in the same manner, J.V. on each guardstick as well as Jules Vaillant in full on one guardstick, See L'Eventail, Miroir de la Belle Epoque, Paris, 1985, pp. 27, 25, 39 no.9, 47 paragraph 4.
