Brian Jones used this amp. prior to the formation of the Rolling Stones. John Keen and Brian Jones both went to Cheltenham Grammar according to Keen although Jones was younger they ...shared an interest in Jazz and Blues and got a band together in 1960/61 which had Brian on guitar, [Keen] on trumpet, Graham Ride on saxophone, and a bass player. Brian was a good player especially of the Blues... the band performed in pubs and at functions in the Cheltenham area until 1963 when Jones moved to London and left the Cheltenham scene. ...Sometime in early 1962 the Vox amplifier was bought for Brian to use...At that time he played an acoustic guitar wired up so that it could be played through an amplifier. It improved Brian's sound enormously and he used it on all our gigs... That year Jones apparently became increasingly restless in Cheltenham and visited London more and more frequently to play with London based blues musicians he had met when their groups visited the Cheltenham Town Hall. Finally in early 1963, Jones based himself in London. John Keen was reunited with Brian Jones in Richmond in August 1963 when Keen performed with a band that preceded the Stones on stage at the National Jazz Festival. Jones introduced him to Mick Jagger and the others and told him they had a record in the charts - their first hit.

The Rolling Stones were to become specifically associated with Vox equipment. They even appeared in Vox adverts which frequently featured in their tour programmes in the mid 1960s.
