Refer The Art of the Jeweller, British Museum items 991 & 992. The design of this brooch is taken from a ring brooch circa. 800 A.D. found in Co. Cavan and now in the National Museum of Ireland, Dublin. A copy was presented to Queen Victoria, hence the name, and further copies were exhibited by West & Son at the Great Exhibition of 1851.
