A rare Steiff 'hot water bottle' bear
with white curly mohair, black boot button eyes, pronounced clipped snout, brown stitched nose, mouth and claws, swivel head, elongated jointed shaped limbs, cream felt pads, large shaped paws and feet, hump, opening at front centre seam fastened with brass buttons and button in ear with remains of white label --19in. (48cm.) tall, circa 1907 (lacks hot water bottle and shoelace fastening, stuffing shifted from upper arms, slight moth damage to three pads, wear to lower back left leg and ankle)

This novelty Teddy 'hot water bottle' was expected to be a great success, but surprisingly there was very little interest in the bear. It is now quite rare to find, for only 90 examples were made during the years of production, 1907 - 1914.
