Descriptif du lot
A unique piece from Hermès, this pocket watch is fitted with a hinged case cover set with a Saint-Louis crystal engraved with a wild horse motif. The dial is executed in brown enamel on a white gold base. The crystal cover draws its motif from a design created by Cristalleries Royales de Saint-Louis in the early nineteenth century, the horses rendered in a manner that recalls the maison's equestrian origins.
Saint-Louis is among the oldest crystal manufactories in Europe, founded in 1586 in the Vosges region of France and granted the title of royal glassworks by Louis XV in 1767. Since 1995 it has been part of the Hermès group, its master glassmakers and engravers continuing a tradition of hand-blown, hand-engraved crystal that has been passed down through generations. The present watch unites the maison's equestrian heritage with the decorative arts in a creation of singular charm.
