Ensayo del lote

The Yongle period is renowned for the exceptional quality of imperial works of art produced for the Emperor's court. Among these, blue-and-white porcelain stands out as one of the most celebrated artistic achievements of the period, such as the current magnificent charger.

Dishes with similarly arranged decoration are found in institutions worldwide, as well as in private collections, including one in the Palace Museum, Taipei, illustrated in Pleasingly Pure and Lustrous: Porcelains from the Yongle Reign (1403-1424) of the Ming Dynasty, Taipei, 2017, pp.70-71; one from the Tianminlou Collection, later sold at Sotheby’s Hong Kong, 2 April 2019, lot 2; and a very similar dish with the mark of Shah Jahan, from the Collection of Lenora and Walter F. Brown, sold at Christie’s New York, 25 September 2020, lot 1551 (fig. 1).
