TANG DYNASTY (AD 618-907)

A sancai-glazed pottery figure of an equally elegant and slightly taller (38.2 cm.) court lady, similarly attired, but with the inclusion of blue rather than green glaze, is illustrated by J.-P. Desroches, Compagnons d'éternité, Paris, 1996, pp. 232-3. A rare and charming detail of the current figure is the depiction of a comb at the back of the head helping to secure her hair in place.

The result of Oxford University Research Laboratory for Archaeology and the History of Art thermoluminescence test sample no. 766f75 is consistent with the dating of this lot.
