This is a variation of a composition painted by Jan Brueghel I (K. Ertz and C. Nitze-Ertz, Jan Brueghel der Ältere (1568-1625), Lingen, 2008, I, no. 168), and later taken up by several artists in his circle, as well as by painters of the next generation.
