The recto of this sheet, executed in pen and brown ink, closely corresponds to the Two Bearded Men Standing at the Gabinetto dei Disegni et delle Stampe at the Uffizi, Florence (inv. 1061S). The unusually elongated, at times almost distorted figures, together with the dense, multidirectional hatching—recalling the manner of his friend Baccio Bandinelli—and the recurring motif of the aged bearded man, all support the attribution to this Florentine artist trained in the workshop of Andrea del Sarto. The verso, a red‑chalk head study, reflects more directly the legacy of Andrea del Sarto, who worked predominantly in chalk and only rarely in pen. Le recto de cette feuille d’études à la plume et encre brune est très comparable en tous points aux Deux hommes barbus debout, conservé au Gabinetto dei Disegni e delle Stampe des Offices de Florence (inv. 1061S). La pose parfois étrange des personnages aux corps très allongés, presque déformés, la densité des hachures en tous sens, qui n’est pas sans rappeler le style de son ami Baccio Bandinelli et ici la figure récurrente du vieil homme barbu, viennent confirmer l’attribution à cet artiste florentin formé dans l’atelier d’Andrea del Sarto. Le verso de cette feuille représentant une Étude de tête à la sanguine rappelle davantage l’héritage de son maître, Andrea del Sarto, qui dessinait principalement à la craie et plus rarement à la plume. Citons encore, pour comparaison stylistique, le Christ chez Marthe et Marie, passé en vente chez Christie’s, New York, 25 janvier 2007 (lot 12) de l’ancienne collection Jak Katalan.
