The Royal Order of Saint Hubert is a Roman Catholic order of knighthood founded in circa 1445 by Gerhard VII, Duke of Jülich-Berg (b.c.1416-1475). The order fell into abeyance in the early 17th century but was revived by Prince-Elector Johann Wilhelm, Duke of Neuberg (1658-1716) in 1708. Following the War of Bavarian Succession the control of the order eventually passed to Maximilian IV, Elector of Bavaria in 1800. The current Duke of Bavaria, Franz von Bayern is the head of the order.
