A VERY FINE FRENCH SILVER-HILTED SMALL-SWORD
MARKS OF THE FERMIER ANTOINE LESCHANDEL, PARIS, CIRCA 1748-9
The blade of hollow-triangular section etched and gilt (gilding rubbed) for most of its length with strapwork, a fleur-de-lys, and at the base with circular medallions inscribed respectively Ne Me Tire Pas Sans Raison and Ne Me Remette Pas Sans Honneur; the hilt finely cast and chased in high relief with elaborate rocailles and small martial trophies against a minutely stippled gilt ground.
Blade: 32 ½ in.
Overall: 39 in.
