The enduring appeal of Tiffany Studios' creations lies in their timeless designs, masterful use of color, and exceptional craftsmanship—qualities that have ensured their continued admiration and collection over a century later. Enthusiasts and collectors across the globe have long coveted Tiffany works, recognizing them as masterpieces of ingenuity and artistry. It is little wonder, then, that Vito D’Agostino would go on to curate a distinguished collection of Tiffany Studios' masterpieces.

Arriving to Ellis Island in 1908, Vito D’Agostino was a native of Sicily who became a New York teacher as well as a passionate Tiffany collector. His deep admiration for the works of Tiffany led him to salvage and preserve a number of Favrile glass tiles and other materials, such as scrapbooks and original designs, from the Studios that were discarded into the East River after Louis Comfort Tiffany’s death in 1933. Among the many treasures in D’Agostino’s collection were the renowned Helen Gould Landscape Window (later part of the Garden Museum Collection) and the iconic Squash lamp, now housed at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (inv. no. 85.151a-h). In 1998, a magnificent Magnolia floor lamp from D’Agostino’s collection was offered by Christie’s in New York. In 2001, a rare Poppy shade from his collection was similarly auctioned, showcasing Tiffany's unmatched expertise in color and composition. Most recently, in 2022, Christie’s offered the striking Yellow Rose floor lamp from D’Agostino’s esteemed collection.

The present Curtain Border floor lamp exemplifies D’Agostino’s discerning taste as a collector of Tiffany’s finest works. This model, listed as No. 1515 “24” Conventional, Dome” in the 1906 Price List at a cost of $100.00, enjoyed popularity throughout its production, with prices rising to $150.00 by 1933. The base, noted in the same Price List as model No. 376 “Piano, Floor, Large, Chased Pod” at $165.00, would later increase to $225.00 by 1933.

The present example is comprised of delicately rippled glass in vibrant orange tones, accentuated by a translucent border row with subtle hints of dandelion yellow. Its large Chased Pod base offers a unifying presence, portraying a brassy finish that harmonizes with the shade’s metal border. The classic design and captivating combination of shade and base present an exceptional opportunity for collectors to acquire one of Tiffany’s most celebrated and enduring works.
