LATE PERIOD, 30TH DYNASTY, 380-332 B.C.

In 1888 the renowned British archaeologist Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie discovered 399 shabtis for Horwedja, a priest of the goddess Neith during the 30th Dynasty, placed in two niches flanking the sarcophagus. Each was inscribed with Chapter 6 from the Book of the Dead. Today, the largest collection of these shabtis is held by The Manchester Museum. For the type, see H.D. Schneider, Shabtis, pt.
