Wolvercote is a small village to the north of Port Meadow and the Long Bridge spanned a branch of the Thames which supplied the mill stream. Stylistically Turner's view dates from the 1830s or 40s.

We are grateful to Timothy Wilcox for his help in preparing this catalogue entry.
