Descriptif du lot

In this drawing Pillement used one of his favorite compositional motifs, the suspension bridge connecting outcrops, to create a sense of dynamism and expanse. The drawing is not a study for any of Pillement's known paintings, though it does share striking similarities with other sheets like a drawing in the National Library of Spain, Madrid (inv. P. ag. An . 231. Al. 150. C. Card.; see G. Martin-Méry, De Tiepolo a Goya, exhib. cat., Bordeaux, Galerie des beaux-arts, 1956, no. 235, ill.).
