KAPSALA VARIETY, EARLY CYCLADIC II, CIRCA 2700-2600 B.C.

This small, fine head from a reclining female figure has a rounded chin, a short, triangular nose low on the face, and a backwards-tilting forehead, on a short slightly-tapering neck. The proportions of this head recall some figures attributed to the both Kontoleon Sculptor and the Israel Museum Sculptor (see pls. 22 and 23 in P. Getz-Preziosi, Sculptors of the Cyclades, Individual and Tradition in the Third Millennium B.C.).
