LUDOVICO CARRACCI, A MAN STANDING (RECTO); STUDY OF THE HEAD OF BEARDED MAN AND CAT (VERSO), BLACK AND RED CHALK

Studies of draped figures are rare among Ludovico Carracci’s drawings, as they are usually depicted nude. One example is a Madonna and Child in the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, in which red and white chalk are combined (inv. 18457; see B. Bohn, Ludovico Carracci and the Art of Drawing, Turnhout, 2004, no. 86, ill.).

Rares sont les figures drapées dans l’art graphique de Ludovico Carracci, ces dernières étant le plus souvent nues. Citons tout de même une Madone à l’Enfant conservée à la National Gallery of Canada, associant sanguine et craie blanche (inv. 18457 ; B. Bohn, Ludovico Carracci and the Art of Drawing, Turnhout, 2004, n° 86).
