This beautifully made bronze tripod censer is exceptionally well cast and has a particularly fine six-character Yongzheng mark on the base. Yongzheng marked bronze censers are extremely rare and only a few examples can be found in the collection of the Palace Museum of Beijing, see two bronze tripod censers of the imperial collection under the inventory number Gu00177028 and Gu00177029. Just like our present lot, they are characterized by the purity of the lines and the sobriety of the decoration. Our present censer's elegant archaistic inlaid decoration is even more rare and seems to be the unique known exemple. See a tripod censer from the Ronald W. Longsdorf collection, sold in Christie's New York, 15-16 September 2011, lot 1160.
