Giuseppe Maria Bonzanigo est né à Asti en 1745 et mort à Turin en 1820. Il est issu d'une famille de sculpteurs sur bois et d'ornementalistes d'Asti. Il est connu pour avoir fourni un grand nombre de palais royaux en mobilier et en sculpture. Il fut nommé sculpteur sur bois par Victor Amédé III en 1787, puis admis à titre honorifique à l'Accademia Clémentine de Bologne. Il exposa plusieurs fois en France, notamment un portrait d’homme au Salon de Paris de 1808.
