MEZCALA STONE FIGURE, TYPE M22

The massive seated figure with hands placed on knees, the large head nestled onto the body with high cheekbones and heavy jaw.

According to Carlo Gay, "[...] stripped clean to the basic position of standing, seated or kneeling, [...] the figures manifest a commanding presence" (ibid, p. 21).

Personnage massif représenté assis avec les mains sur les genoux et une large tête enfoncée dans le corps avec ses grandes joues et sa mâchoire puissante.

Selon Carlo Gay, « [...] les personnages Mezcala expriment un sentiment d’autorité [...] au travers de leurs postures habituelles en position debout, assise ou à genoux » (ibid, p. 21).
