A French 19th Century ciborium
on a rising circular foot decorated with flower heads, fluting, vines, ears of corn and stylised pineapples, the inverted pear-shaped stem chased with a frieze of shells and flower heads, the plain tapering bowl in an openwork holder pierced with fluting, vines, ears of corn and bullrushes and with three oval vignettes of classical figures, possibly emblematic of Faith, Hope and Charity, the chased cover with elaborate crucifix finial, the foot engraved: "Hospice des Vieillards Bordx." - 12in. (30.50cm.), 15.75oz.
