CIRCA 1774, GREY INTERLACED L'S MARKS AND INDISTINCT DATE MARK, GILT PAINTER'S MARK FOR DRAND, BLUE GILDER'S MARK FOR BAUDOIN PERE

The present pair of compotier ovale are from a service sold to the Paris marchand-bijoutier Jacques Dumoulin, in the first half of 1774 and later offered at Christie's, London, 10 June 1860. Other pieces from the service are in the Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford (formerly part of the J.P. Morgan collection); Hillwood Museum, Washington D.C.; and the Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg. See D. François Drand is recorded as a painter specializing in flowers at the manufactory from 1764-80. François Baudouin père is recorded as a gilder from 1750-1800.
