While much of the inscription is difficult to decipher on the present rug, it is possible to make out the words eid (New Year) and atabak (Persian word for vizier) which was a Qajar title. Rugs were frequently given as a new year gift often inscribed mobarak bad saneh, (May the year ...be blessed), along side further verses from popular Persian poetry, in celebration of the occasion.
