This farm scene was formerly owned by Berenice Abbot (1898-1991), one of America's most celebrated 20th-century photographers. Born in Springfield, Ohio, she began her career in Paris as the darkroom assistant to Man Ray. In 1929, she moved to New York to begin her series Changing New York. Many of these photos documenting the effects of the depression on New York City became some of her most iconic works. This style of documentary photography would influence her work for the rest of her career.
