The exterior is finely painted in strong tones of cobalt blue with a continuous scene depicting two large five-clawed dragons in mutual pursuit of a flaming pearl, amidst ruyi-form clouds and above crashing waves, all below a band of ruyi-shaped lappets below the rim.
