The slide is carved to one end with a phoenix and further decorated to the surface with a scrolling cloud motif. The well-polished stone is of a pale grey tone with russet inclusions.

Compare to a very similarly decorated white jade slide dating to the Han dynasty, but with a chilong at one end instead of a phoenix, in the Palace Museum Collection, illustrated in Jadeware (I), The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, Hong Kong, 1995, pl. 181 (fig. 1).
