The bowl is carved through a layer of creamy-white slip with rows of arcuate pattern reserved on a stippled ground. The recessed base is unglazed.

The bowl is a fine example of Cizhou-type wares made in the Guantai kilns in Ci county, Hebei province, and in the Dengfeng kilns in Northern Henan province from the 10th to the early 12th century.
